Hidden In Plain View formed in August 2000 playing together much in the DIY style releasing two EP’s on small indie labels (Note To Self Records and LLR Records) while playing out to fans in the Northeast US.
Throughout the years between 2003 - 2007, HIPV signed with southern California pop punk label Drive-Thru Records beginning a touring and recording career that saw the releases of a self-titled EP (November 2003), Life in Dreaming LP (February 2005), and Resolution LP (July 2007). It was the impact of these releases as well as notable national and international support and headlining tours with bands such as Something Corporate, Midtown, Mae, Allister, Less Than Jake, 2004 and 2005 Vans Warped Tour, Academy Is, Matchbook Romance, The Starting Line, The Early November, Fall Out Boy, and MXPX that solidified the band as a mainstay of the Drive Thru Records era.
As Hidden in Plain View's fan base continued to grow due to consistent touring and support from their label and various media sources, 2005 saw the release of Life in Dreaming, the band’s most notable and successful release.
On January 29, 2007, the band announced that their hiatus. Hidden In Plain View's last show was at the School of Rock in Hackensack, NJ in December of 2006. Resolution, the band’s second full length album was release after the band had announced their hiatus.
In March of 2013, Hidden In Plain View along with Company Ink Records released a limited pressing of Life in Dreaming on vinyl sparking discussions among members to prepare for a reunion show on September 7, 2013 in Philadelphia, PA. HIPV has since returned as full band and sparked new light when they released a vinyl 7” and digital EP titled Animal on Rise Records. Engaging new and old fans alike HIPV went on further to announce an Anniversary Celebration Tour of the release Life in Dreaming in the US and UK. They are currently writing material for a new LP.
Hidden In Plain View is forever known for their dynamic style of punk/emo and alternative sound as well as their hardcore dedicated fan base. They are a stand out among others of similar style with their ability to get in front of their sound vocally with trade offs and harmonies between Joe Reo and Rob Freeman. HIPV accomplishes all of this without losing the meaning and sincerity of Rob Freeman’s most memorable lyrics. Spencer Peterson’s drum style is the driving backbone that stands out almost as much as the melodies and harmonies of HIPV’s vocals. Their live show, their sound, and their entire image is down right honest and refreshing.
