Shrimpnose

In the past few years, as Shrimpnose, Riley Smithson has released albums with LA based labels Friends of Friends(Shlohmo, GROUNDISLAVA, Daedelus, Perera Elsewhere) and Dome of Doom (QRTR, Jon Casey, Daedelus). He also has recent releases on Bitbird, Brainfeeder Records, Chillhop, Blue Note & Astralwerks Records, and recently signed to Nettwerk.

His music flutters between the beautiful and jagged corners of electronic music. Riley had a great 2022 with various headline dates in LA, a support dates for Ivy Lab in Minneapolis, Opiou in Los Angeles, and touring across the country supporting Anomalie last summer and Blockhead late 2021, and a brief headline tour with FoF labelmates Somni and Joe Nora(LA,NYC,MPLS) – with dates in NYC (x2) Chicago(x2), Minneapolis (x3), Des Moines, Denver, Eugene, Dallas, Austin, Atlanta, LA(x3), and DC.

His most recent shows include: Sold out DMVU direct support in Denver at the Blalck Box, sold out Shrek Rave in Minneapolis at First Ave (1500 cap) He’s gearing up for his next album release “As It Seems” on Friends of Friends this October; including features from: Anomalie, Bobby Raps, Ryan Hemsworth, Blockhead, Blu, Bad Snacks, Swum, Somni, and Joe Nora. The album is a big step up sonically, with elements of post-dubstep, future bass, hyperpop, and folk rock blended with his low fidelity leanings. With lyrics touching on disability, isolation, and feelings of codependence, the album has these conversations in a nuanced way that is demonstrative of Riley’s personal experiences.
The release of his 2022 album “Under Fire!” (Friends of Friends) and his acclaimed Spotify Singles (featuring a Brian Eno cover) through Blue Note and Astralwerks Records — with support from Shade45, BBC6, KCRW, Nashville NPR, New Music Friday., lofi beats, and widespread DSP and college radio support — has set him up for an active year ahead. He has features in Complex, Vice, BBC, Passion of the Weiss, Bandcamp, RinseFM, The Current, Dancing Astronaut, XLR8R, Earmilk, Lyrical Lemonade, Dublab, and other notable publications. With a combined 50+ million plays across platforms, it’s a matter of time before Shrimpnose is a regular name in the touring circuit.

He has collaborations with Bobby Raps, Lil Aaron, Daedelus, Little Snake, and more. He has also played festivals such as Infrasound (5x) Snowta(x2), Summerset, 515 Alive(Skrillex, Marshmello, Post Malone, Excision, Tipper) and one of the final Low End Theory nights in Los Angeles.

Chris Otchy

A synthesist and electronic music producer based in Northern California, Chris Otchy creates evocative electronic music, ranging from rich, melodic ambient pieces to atmospheric, leftfield techno. In the early 2000s he began playing keyboards and touring with the synth pop band, Soviet, a key element of the electroclash movement based in New York City. When the band dissolved in 2005, he abandoned music completely and established himself as a foreign journalist and editor in Southeast Asia.

Returning to the States in 2011, Chris relocated to San Francisco and began making music again under his own name, newly energized by the possibilities of modular synthesizers and laptop-based tools. He has since released music with Constellation TatsuAmbientologistDeep Electronics, and Brushed Evergreen Labs, of which he is a co-founder.

After a long collaboration with San Francisco-based multimedia artists, Chroma Sea, he expects to release a full length audio/visual album with them in November, 2023.
